What to expect

First appointment (1 hour)

Future appointments (30 minutes)

  • Your chiropractor will ask questions about your main issue and how it is impacting your life. They will also about your past injuries, pains, issues, your medical history, as well as lifestyle questions (diet, exercise, stress, sleep). This is to minimise risks and ensure treatments will not impact your particular health condition, and to rule out the need for referral to another health professional.
  • They will then perform tests to better understand your spine, joints, muscle and nerves and you’re your current health
    • Blood pressure, pulse and breathing checks
    • Reflex, strength and sensation tests
    • Orthopedic tests
    • Analysis of your posture and movement (how you walk, turn, bend or lift things)
    • Hands-on evaluation of how well your joints moves
  • Your chiropractor will check in on how you are feeling since the previous appointment. They may ask about: pain, functional abilities, adverse reactions.
  • They will regularly check in with your overall health to assure themselves you have no other serious conditions.
  • They will conduct a few choice tests to monitor your improvement.
  • They will continue with the treatment plan that was explained to you at the first visit. This plan may evolve over time along with your progress and preferences.

How to prepare for your appointment

  • Wear comfortable (stretchy) clothes
  • If you have X-ray or other test results previously done regarding your concern, please bring them with you.
  • Try to avoid taking any pain medication right before your visit. This can make it harder for your chiropractor to identify the cause and severity of your condition.
  • Patients with long hair – bring a hair tie
